About us

Founded in 2015, Biopuntia develops a production chain in Portugal specialising in the organic cultivation and processing of Opuntia ficus-indica, a plant also known as nopal and prickly pear.

Our plantations are located between the Alentejo and the Algarve, in areas whose climate is particularly suited to this naturally resilient plant. We make use of its different parts to offer professionals plant-based raw materials for cosmetics, food supplements and natural ingredients, among other sectors.

Our range includes a premium organic prickly pear seed oil, obtained by first cold pressing, as well as organic nopal available in various forms: whole cactus pads, dehydrated pieces or powder, aqueous extract and freeze-dried extract.

Biopuntia supports laboratories, manufacturers, brands and distributors seeking plant-based ingredients produced in Portugal with batch traceability.

Our ambition is to sustainably develop the use of Opuntia by combining organic agriculture, control over processing and the requirements of professional markets.
